Chafyn Grove enjoy great success at the first athletics meeting

Chafyn took 17 pupils to compete at the Kings College Taunton Athletics meeting on Sunday 11th May. As preparations had been hit by the bad weather and prevented very little training, expectations weren't overly high. However all the athletes did exceptionally well achieving some excellent results. They all behaved superbly, representing their school in a very good light and what was also nice to see was their support for one another when competing.

Medal winners were the following:
Kitty was the joint  competitor of the day winning 3 gold medals in all her events including the 100m, 200m and 4 X 100m relay. Isabel was also joint competitor of the day storming to victory in the 75m hurdles, winning the long jump  and also wining gold in the 4 X 100m relay all a year up.
Seb had a good day wining gold in the long jump, silver in the 4 X 50m shuttle relay and bronze in the 80m sprint.   Alex ran a superb race to win the 800m.  William ran a gutsy 600m race winning gold a year up.   Ailsa had a good day winning Gold in the 4X100m relay and two bronzes in the 800m and High Jump.  Hal performed admirably in all his events, deservedly winning a silver medal in the Triple Jump a year up.  4X100 Girls Relay winners (Grace, Isabel, Ailsa and Kitty).  4X50m Boys Shuttle Relay Silver medallists (William, Angus, George and Seb).  4X50m Girls Shuttle Relay Bronze medallists (Zoe, Amelia, Amelia and Alice).

This was a great introduction to the Athletics season and hopefully the start of what could be a very promising season. Well done to all competitors, also parents for supporting throughout the day and Miss Jenkins and Mr Newton for their help.
