U11 boys win National Prep School Hockey Championship

Having won through at the West of England regional finals held at Clifton College earlier in the year, Chafyn’s U11 boys travelled to Wellington College on Monday to take part in the National Prep School Hockey Finals.  This event saw 20 schools from all over Britain representing their regions.

Chafyn won through the morning group matches to meet Bishop Stortford in the quarter finals (won 2-1) and then beat Felsted School in the semi finals (2-1). The particularly high level of fitness of the Chafyn boys showed as they went into the final, their 7th match of the day. The final was against local rivals, Hazlegrove, and it was a tense match, ending with victory in the closing minutes sealed by a goal from Oli CS, the team captain. Oli was also awarded with a large trophy for being declared ‘Player of the Tournament’.

This has been an incredible year for Chafyn at hockey: for the first time in the school’s history, all four main hockey teams have qualified for the National Finals – the Girls U11, and U13 and the Boys U11 and U13.  The U13 boys are travelling to Millfield for the final of their event next week.
