CHAFYN GROVE - SALISBURY
Not to be beaten by the Beast from the East, 42 year 6’s set off for France on a snowy Monday morning on time, only to be thwarted by Eurotunnel delays. Spirits remained high, however, and we arrived in time for our three course meal at l’Hôtel du Moulin aux Draps in Desvres. Three days packed with activities followed. The children learned how to make goat’s cheese, croissants and chocolates. They marvelled at the sealife at Nausicaä, especially enjoying the touch pool. They floated along through the marshes in almost spring-like weather. All children achieved the “Chafyn Challenge” of haggling in a French market as they had to purchase the ingredients for their picnic. They appreciated the architecture of Boulogne Old Town and were moved by a visit to Étaples Military Cemetery. The final evening was a whirlwind of tasting escargots and boogying in the disco.
