CHAFYN GROVE - SALISBURY
On Wednesday night, Year 8 had a ‘sleep out’ around the school buildings, inspired by the work of local charity for the homeless, Alabare – a charity which the school supported last summer.
The children had a brief taste of some of the challenges faced by homeless people, in a bid to raise their awareness of this growing issue.
We were honoured to be joined by Rev. John Proctor, Chair and Founder of Alabare Christian Care and Support, who spoke to the children about some of his experiences in dealing with homeless people over the last 25 years or so.
The children had a warm evening meal, were supervised by some of the Chafyn staff, and woke up for a hot shower and breakfast, so the experience was a relatively gentle one. However, I must commend their attitude. They weren’t just happy to sleep rough, in the rain, in cardboard boxes and sleeping bags, they were positively desperate to do it!
