Chess SuccessChess remains as popular as ever at Chafyn Grove. Last term there were no fewer than 21 children in the weekly Chess Activity, ranging from absolute beginners to potential grandmasters! Once again, twins Max and Joe proved unbeatable and both were selected to play in the 'Wessex Megafinal'.
Reunion smallThe 'Inaugural Old Boys' and Girls' Reunion' which was recently held at Chafyn Grove proved a great success. Well over fifty ex-pupils including retired Majors, GP's, Assistant Headmasters, and Property Investors returned to the School to mix with budding Lawyers, Biochemists, Editors and Designers.
Pre-Prep Flies the FlagThe Nursery and Pre Prep flew the flag in honour of Prince William's and Catherine Middleton's nuptials by celebrating the happy event with a traditional "Street Party".  The children made flags to wave and dressed in their finery and each year group was designated a specific job to do, to prepare for the party.  Nursery and Reception honed their counting skills while laying the tables, and painted the Union Jack on a huge cake to share.
Colt VIIHaving qualified in the regional tournament held in February, the Chafyn Colts Hockey Team recently went to Clifton College, Bristol to compete in the U11 IAPS National Hockey Championships. There were 20 teams taking part in this prestigious event. Chafyn were put into a tough group but played well enough during the morning to be placed 2nd in the group, thereby gaining a place in the quarter-finals later that day.
Great ExpectationsPupils in Year 7 and 8 at Chafyn have recently taken part in a wonderful dramatization of Charles Dickens' 'Great Expectations'. Dickens never did short and simple and this was a full length, emotionally complex plot which demanded stamina and subtlety from all involved.
Fun at the FarmThe story of the Town Mouse and the Country Mouse provided the inspiration for the Early Years' work on 'opposites', comparing the rural countryside with built up towns and cities.  Chafyn is ideally situated on the outskirts of Salisbury which offers a wide range of buildings, businesses and facilities, while still being close to the countryside enabling us to make easy comparisons.  We went to explore life on a real working farm thanks to some kind farming parents in nearby Sutton Mandeville.
Cub ReportersPupils in the Boarding House at Chafyn Grove School are currently trying to raise money for the school's charities of the term, 'Lucy's Days Out' and 'Hounds for Heroes'. Five boys in Year 6 came up with the idea of putting together their own newspaper 'Chafyn Times'.
