Admissions Policy

Chafyn Grove School is a co-educational, independent school for pupils from ages 2 and a half to 13.

The school has 300 pupils, 46 of whom are boarders.  Deciding on the right school for your child is very important, and we believe that a personal visit is invaluable. We very much hope that you and your child will visit Chafyn Grove School.

We hold Open Days in the Autumn and Summer Term, which give a general introduction to the school.  Details are published on our website. We are also very happy to welcome prospective parents and their children at other times.  Please contact, our Admissions Secretary, on 01722 333423 or email on office@chafyngrove.co.uk to arrange a visit.

The Entry Procedure

Chafyn Grove School is not an academically selective school although we are looking for pupils who would be able to benefit from our balanced and well rounded education and to make a positive contribution towards the life of the school.

Pupils may enter at any stage from Nursery, if there is a place available. Please contact the Admissions Secretary for details.

Equal Treatment

Our aim is to encourage applications from candidates with as diverse a range of backgrounds as possible.  This enriches our community and is vital in preparing our pupils for today's world. Generous bursaries are offered in order to make it possible for as many as possible who meet the school's admission criteria to attend the school.

Chafyn Grove School is committed to equal treatment for all, regardless of a candidate's race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or social background.  Our provision for bursaries is described below.

Special Needs

We do not discriminate in any way regarding entry although pupils would need to be able to access the general school curriculum, with the support that our Learning Support Department can provide. We welcome pupils with physical disabilities provided that our site can cope with them.  We advise parents of children with special educational needs or physical disabilities to discuss their child's requirements with the School before making an appointment to visit. Children with an Educational Psychologist's report or a medical report should bring it to the school so we can be sure that we are able to offer the best provision for them.
We will discuss thoroughly with parents and their medical advisers the adjustments that can reasonably be made for the child if he/she becomes a pupil at the school.

We would invite potential pupils to join us for a trial day and to an Induction Day so they can be placed in appropriate streams or classes as well as allowing the pupil to feel prepared before starting at the school.

Sibling Policy

Most siblings join us at Chafyn Grove School.  However, there may be rare occasions where we judge that a sibling is likely to thrive better in a different academic environment.

Scholarships

Chafyn Grove School offers a limited number of scholarships a year for (Year 3, 5 and 7) excellence in:

Purpose of Scholarships

Scholarships are designed to reward excellence and to celebrate exceptional talent. In recognition of this achievement, the scholar may be offered a reduction in the fees throughout their time at the School. The annual scholarship day in January is advertised in the local press and on our website.  Details of the arrangements will be sent to all who express an interest.

We encourage parents of Scholars who anticipate that they will experience difficulty in meeting the balance of the tuition fees, to apply at the same time for one of the school's means tested bursaries described below, when they register their child.

Music Scholarships

Music scholarships are awarded to outstanding musicians who play any instrument or sing with exceptional ability. They will be required to perform on their instrument/instruments (including voice), and will also be interviewed by the Director of Music. They will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm for and commitment to music, and will be expected to make a contribution to the musical life of the school throughout their time at the school.

Sports Scholarships

Sports scholarships are awarded to outstanding, all-round sportsmen/women who have achieved a high level of competence in two or more sports.  They will be assessed and interviewed by the Director of Sport, and will be expected to demonstrate qualities of leadership and team play of a very high order.    They will be expected to make a contribution to the sporting life of the school throughout their time at the school.

Drama Scholarships

Drama scholarships are offered to those pupils who show exceptional talent or promise in acting.   They will be assessed by the Head of Drama and asked to perform in a group and improvise a solo piece.  They will be expected to make a significant contribution to the dramatic life of the school throughout their time at the school.

Art Scholarships

Art scholarships are offered to those pupils who show exceptional talent or promise in visual arts.  They will be invited to bring their portfolios to school and will also take part in a practical session - they will be interviewed and assessed by the Head of Art.
