Aims of the School
Education is not the filling of a pail, it is the lighting of a fire. (W.B. Yeats)
Outcomes at a school are important, but Chafyn Grove is not just about what can be measured. We enjoy supplying our children with challenges, in an encouraging and stimulating way. Accordingly our children achieve a great deal of personal growth and success throughout their time here: their potential is fulfilled and enjoyably enhanced. However, Chafyn Grove also cares deeply about more ineffable traits. Life skills of Courtesy and Compassion, Curiosity and Courage are nurtured and prized every bit as much as academic, sporting and artistic development. Our motto: ut sibi sic alteri (as for oneself, so for another) is an essential living, breathing tenet. We aim to help our children understand how their actions and attitudes can help others. Our older children help and inspire our younger (and are generously entertained in return). With a strong boarding element at the heart of our school, the lessons of living with and for others are lived on a daily basis.
The Excellence we achieve grows from the habits and appetites we inspire. We set ourselves the goal of understanding each and every child as an individual, ensuring that our provision is bespoke. Progress is achieved impressively, but naturally; it is catalysed by a culture of high standards and deep understanding, not forced by pre-formed ideas or inflexible aspirations.
We want all members of our school community to be:
- Supportive, considerate, tolerant
- Determined, confident, self assured
- Energetic, healthy and willing to have a go
We aim to:
- Provide a breadth of physical and creative opportunities
- Be academically ambitious for children of all abilities
- Provide a safe, happy environment in which children can take risks, make mistakes and learn from them
"Inspiring leadership and excellent teachers." -
